The long-running rivalry between WNBA stars Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese became an even bigger talking point when the two were brought together on the Team USA roster for the FIBA Women’s World Cup. Both players were selected by the national team’s decision-makers, including Sue Bird, and quickly showed that their competitive history did not prevent them from building a strong connection on the court. After years of facing each other in college and the WNBA, Clark and Reese demonstrated encouraging chemistry while representing the United States.

However, Clark was clearly unhappy when a reporter attempted to shift the focus from Team USA’s achievement to her relationship with Reese. The Americans had just capped their World Cup campaign with a dominant 97-79 victory over France in Sunday’s gold medal game at Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany. Rather than allowing questions about their past rivalry to overshadow the championship, Clark made it clear that the team’s title triumph should remain the main story.

Caitlin Clark Pushes Back on Reporter’s Angel Reese Question After USA Wins Gold

Caitlin Clark had little interest in allowing questions about her relationship with Angel Reese to overshadow Team USA’s latest triumph. After helping the United States secure another FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup gold medal, Clark found herself facing a question that attempted to revive the long-running narrative surrounding her rivalry with Reese.

The United States produced a commanding 97-79 win over France in the gold medal game at Uber Arena in Berlin, Germany. Clark subsequently joined the media alongside her Team USA teammates, but as the press conference came to an end, a reporter asked whether she and Reese were “finally friends.” Clark appeared unimpressed by the framing and made it clear that she was not interested in turning their relationship into a storyline.

As she left the media room, Clark pointed toward the reporter and firmly pushed back against the question. “We always been friends,” Clark responded. “Don’t try to do that. Don’t try to do that.” A Team USA representative later approached the reporter following the exchange, adding another layer to the brief but notable moment.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese Turn WNBA Rivalry Into Team USA Success

The attention surrounding Clark and Reese dates back to their college days, particularly the 2023 NCAA championship game between LSU and Iowa. Reese and LSU came out on top against Clark and Iowa, while the intensity of the contest and the celebrations afterward helped establish a rivalry that quickly became one of the biggest storylines in women’s basketball.

That rivalry followed both players into the WNBA, where their meetings have continued to attract enormous attention. Physical battles, competitive exchanges and moments between the two have repeatedly fueled discussion about their relationship, although both players have also demonstrated respect for each other away from the court.

Their time together with Team USA offered a different picture. Instead of competing against one another, Clark and Reese were teammates working toward the same goal, and they showed that their history as rivals did not prevent them from developing chemistry. Their performances and interactions throughout the tournament helped the United States claim its fifth consecutive FIBA Women’s World Cup title.

In the final against France, Clark contributed 12 points and three assists, while Reese recorded three points and three rebounds in nine minutes. Their contributions came as Team USA completed a dominant victory, reinforcing the idea that their shared success as teammates was far more significant than the rivalry narrative that has followed them for years.
