There was a major scare during Denmark’s international friendly against Ukraine on Sunday, June 7 after Danish midfielder Christian Eriksen suddenly collapsed on the pitch at Nature Energy Park in Odense. The match was immediately stopped and later called off as medical staff rushed onto the field to treat the 34-year-old.
According to Danish broadcaster DR, Eriksen is conscious and stable after receiving medical attention. Reports also said he was awake and communicating as he left the pitch.
The frightening scenes brought back memories of Eriksen’s cardiac arrest during Euro 2020, when he collapsed while playing for Denmark against Finland. Since then, the midfielder has played with an implanted cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD).

What Happened To Christian Eriksen?
Denmark were leading Ukraine 2-1 when the incident happened late in the first half. Patrick Dorgu and Joakim Mæhle had scored for the hosts, while Eriksen was heavily involved in midfield and had earlier received a yellow card.
Without any challenge from an opponent, Eriksen suddenly went down on the pitch, leaving players and fans in shock.
Medical staff reacted immediately and an ambulance was brought onto the field within minutes. The Danish Football Association (DBU) officials and Eriksen’s wife were also seen rushing to the scene as doctors worked to help the midfielder.
Thankfully, reports suggest Eriksen regained consciousness quickly before being taken for further medical checks.
DR Provides Positive Update on Eriksen
Danish broadcaster DR later reported that Eriksen was conscious, talking and in a stable condition after the incident.
The match was suspended as both teams returned to their dressing rooms while officials assessed the situation.
Further updates on Eriksen’s condition and the status of the friendly match are expected from the Danish Football Association later on Sunday.
For now, the most important news is that Eriksen is awake, stable and receiving medical care after another frightening moment in his remarkable football career.
