Commonwealth Games 2026: With only a day to go for the Commonwealth Games 2026 to begin, the Indian Boxing Contingent have been left stranded due to a bizarre reason despite arriving in Glasgow. Although the team arrived in Glasgow on time following the conclusion of its preparatory camp in Belfast, they are still waiting for their luggage to arrive, with efforts still underway to dispatch to the team at the earliest.
Commonwealth Games 2026: Why did the issue arise?
According to a report of Revsportz, the delay in the dispatch of the luggage to the boxing contingent didn’t trigger due to the Indian team’s lapse. Instead, it stemmed from the operational issues after the cancellation of the flight, a situation that has become rather common in Europe causing frequent travel disruptions. The report also stated that the Indian boxing contingent’s baggage is yet to arrive in Glasgow despite the athletes having arrived several hours earlier. With the original flight from Belfast cancelled, the Indian team had to opt for an alternate airline service.
Additionally, the report stated that the athletes were successfully accommodated by the airline but their baggage wasn’t loaded. Hence, the athletes landed in Glasgow without their luggage or personal belongings. The efforts to trace their baggage reportedly began early in the morning as the stakeholders are trying their best to ensure that everything reaches the athletes at the earliest. With India’s boxing campaign set to get underway on July 24, the delay couldn’t have come in a worse time since the boxers will need their training kit and gear, especially during the final phase of preparation.
The officials are reportedly monitoring the situation closely and hoping for a quick resolution.

The Indian team won seven medals in the 2022 edition, including 3 gold, 1 silver and 3 bronze.
