Conor McGregor has confirmed that he is undergoing surgery to repair the torn ACL and meniscus he suffered during his UFC 329 clash with Max Holloway last month. The former two-division UFC champion shared the update on social media on Monday, revealing that the operation will be the fifth surgery of his professional career as he begins the next phase of his recovery.

McGregor sustained the knee injury just 69 seconds into the opening round of his welterweight rematch with Holloway in Las Vegas on July 11, forcing the fight to be stopped. The bout marked his first appearance inside the Octagon in more than a year, but his comeback was cut short by the injury.

Conor McGregor Begins Surgery After Devastating UFC 329 Knee Injury

Conor McGregor has officially begun the next phase of his recovery after confirming that he is undergoing surgery to repair the torn ACL and meniscus he suffered at UFC 329. The former two-division UFC champion sustained the injury during his long-awaited return against Max Holloway, a comeback that lasted just 69 seconds before the fight was stopped. The knee injury is expected to keep McGregor out of action for around a year.

On Monday, McGregor shared an update with fans on social media before heading into the procedure. He said, “What’s up folks, it’s ‘The Mac.’ Off to get surgery today. Wish me well. I’m going to fuel up with a Mac Energy. Let’s go. We got this.” The Irish star also revealed that the operation will be the fifth surgery of his professional career.

McGregor suffered the injury in Las Vegas during the opening round of his UFC 329 main event against Holloway, forcing an early end to one of the most anticipated fights of the year. Medical examinations later confirmed tears to both his ACL and meniscus, leaving the former champion facing another lengthy rehabilitation before he can consider returning to the Octagon.

Conor McGregor’s UFC Future Remains Uncertain After Surgery

McGregor still has one fight remaining on his current UFC contract, meaning he could become a free agent for the first time in his career if he chooses not to sign a new deal before his next appearance. The former two-division champion also revealed last week that his next UFC outing would be his “Last Dance,” sparking speculation that he could be preparing to retire from the sport.

However, McGregor’s immediate focus remains on his recovery rather than his fighting future. After confirming that the latest procedure will be the fifth surgery of his career, the Irish star now faces a lengthy rehabilitation process following surgery to repair his torn ACL and meniscus. Questions surrounding retirement, free agency and a potential return to the Octagon are likely to take a back seat until he completes his recovery.
