The town in the Dolomites is hosting several Olympic competitions, including curling, women’s Alpine skiing and the sliding disciplines of bobsleigh, skeleton and luge. On Friday (February 6) evening, Sofia Goggia, Italy's first women's downhill Olympic champion, lit the cauldron in central Cortina at the culmination of the opening ceremony which also saw a cauldron lit in Milan. It was the first time in Olympic history that two cauldrons, one of the symbols of the Games, were lit simultaneously and will burn throughout.
