The Indian Premier League 2026 points table has just got a lot tighter after Chennai Super Kings’ riot against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday night. The eight-wicket victory at the Arun Jaitley Stadium has repositioned the five-time champions as serious contenders for the knockout stages. With the tournament entering its final stretch, the qualification math for the Yellow Army has become clear in the league’s playoff race.

Chennai Super Kings IPL 2026 Points:

After the Arun Jaitely magic, the Chennai Super Kings occupy the 6th position on the points table. The team has secured five victories and suffered five defeats across 10 matches, totaling 10 points. Despite the middle-table placement, the gap to the top four is narrow; CSK remains just two points behind a four-team cluster comprising Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Gujarat Titans, all of whom sit on 12 points.

One of the factors in CSK’s favor is a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) of +0.151. The efficiency of their recent chase against Delhi, reaching the target of 159 in just 17.3 overs, has provided a statistical advantage over Gujarat Titans (-0.147) and Lucknow Super Giants (-1.076).

How can CSK secure a playoff spot?

With four fixtures remaining in the league stage, the qualification criteria for the teams are now defined by the 16-point mark. Those many points serve as the threshold for a guaranteed spot in the playoffs.

  • 16-Point Theory: CSK can qualify by securing three wins from the final four matches, as it would elevate them to 16 points.

  • The 14-Point Risk: Winning only two of the remaining matches would leave the team on 14 points. In this event, the franchise would rely on their NRR remaining superior to other 14-point finishers and would require favorable results from matches of SRH and GT.

  • Elimination: Fewer than two wins would mathematically eliminate the side from playoff contention.

CSK Remaining Matches:

Date Opponent Venue

May 15 Lucknow Super Giants Lucknow (Away)
May 18 Sunrisers Hyderabad Chennai (Home)
May 21 Gujarat Titans Ahmedabad (Away)
