Chennai Super Kings’ seamer Gurjapneet Singh joined an elite class of bowlers to become the 17th cricketer in IPL history to take a wicket off his first ball on debut. Gurjapneet, the left-arm seamer, also became the third Chennai Super Kings’ bowler to achieve the feat after Matheesha Pathirana did so in 2022 and Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan accomplished in the inaugural edition.
Who did Gurjapneet Singh dismiss in his first-ever delivery of IPL?
The 27-year-old lanky seamer, who was injured last year and replaced by Dewald Brevis, didn’t get a game in the 2025 edition. Having supposedly replaced Prashant Veer in the line-up, the southpaw made an impact straightaway, dismissing Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel for only 1 as Sarfaraz Khan claimed an outstanding catch at backward point.
Here are the list of bowlers who have taken a wicket off their first ball of the IPL:

Sanju Samson’s fourth IPL hundred powers the Chennai Super Kings to a formidable total against the Delhi Capitals
Having notched up three single-figure scores to start IPL 2026, Sanju Samson stood tall as the Super Kings entered the Chepauk to face the Capitals under considerable pressure. The Kerala-born cricketer got to the milestone only in 51 deliveries and was met with massive applause from the Super Kings’ crowd. It is also the first century of the 19th edition of the tournament.
Along with Ayush Mhatre, who struck 59 before being retired out, he shared a 113-run stand to put the Yellow Army in the driver’s seat. Samson eventually stayed unbeaten at 115, taking the five-time champions to 212/2 in 20 overs.
