Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill has gone where no player of the franchise has thus far as the youngster accomplished the massive feat in the IPL 2026 game against the Delhi Capitals on April 8, Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Gill became the first Gujarat Titans cricketer to cross the 2500-run mark amid his epic knock of 70 against the Capitals.

Shubman Gill sizzles on his comeback

The Punjab-born cricketer had missed the previous IPL 2026 game against the Rajasthan Royals at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad due to muscle spasm, forcing Rashid Khan to step up as captain. The Titans seemingly felt the right-handed batter’s presence as they felt agonizingly short of chasing down 210 for victory. But Gill, who started slowly, accelerated exceptionally well, striking 70 in his 45-ball stay alongside four fours and five sixes. In the process, he shared brisk 60-run and 104-run stands with Jos Buttler and Washington Sundar, respectively to propel the Titans to a total of 210 in 20 overs. Buttler (52) and Sundar (55) also played outstanding knocks.

Rashid Khan brings Gujarat Titans back into the contest after Delhi Capitals’ rapid start

The opening stand for the Capitals was worth 76 only in 8.1 overs before Prasidh Krishna broke it, sending Pathum Nissanka for 41 off 24 deliveries. Nevertheless, it has been Rashid Khan, who brought the Titans back into the contest by dismissing Nitish Rana and Sameer Rizvi in consecutive deliveries.

Having played two matches each in IPL 2026, the Capitals and Titans are at the opposite end of the points table. The Capitals started their campaign with wins over the Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians in one home and away game. Sameer Rizvi has established himself as an early contender for the Orange Cap, crafting back-to-back match-winning innings. The youngster also joined the likes of Virat Kohli, Virender Sehwag, Jacques Kallis, Jos Buttler and Ruturaj Gaikwad to secure a hat-trick of Player of the Match awards in IPL history.

As for the Gujarat Titans, they lost in convincing fashion to the Punjab Kings in Mullanpur, followed by a narrow defeat to the Royals.
