She then faced the much more difficult challenge of No. 32 seed Maria Sakkari, losing the opening set 1–6 before staging a remarkable comeback. Starodubtseva eventually prevailed 1–6, 7–6(4), 6–2, saving three match points during the second-set fightback before dominating the deciding set.
