Emma Raducanu has been ruled out of Wimbledon 2026 hours before her first-round match against Croatia’s Antonia Ruzic. Earlier, the British tennis player, dealing with a lower-leg injury, revealed her plans to be available for the grass-court major opener. She has been forced to withdraw at the last moment due to a stress fracture in her shin. Raducanu, who missed the Nottingham Open for fitness concerns, underwent a scan, which led her doctor to recommend full rest. The 23-year-old, visibly emotional, shared on Instagram that she would not be able to compete at the home Grand Slam. Despite putting in her best efforts, she was unable to gain match fitness for the coveted Wimbledon.
Emma Raducanu Injury Update
Raducanu featured in the Queen’s Club tournament a few weeks ago and played the final as well. However, she could not continue at Nottingham and was spotted practicing with a support on her right leg in recent sessions. Raducanu worked hard on her fitness despite feeling discomfort in her injured leg, and seemed positive about her Wimbledon campaign.
“I’m going to do everything with my team in terms of treatment. The plan right now is to play. I have a lower-leg niggle that I’ve been dealing with since before Queen’s, actually, from the back end of the clay court season. I’ve been managing it,” the former US Open champion said at a recent press conference.
Now, after the final scan, her doctor feels Raducanu should not push her limit at Wimbledon, keeping the future in mind. “I can’t believe I’m saying this, but sadly I’ve had to withdraw from this year’s Wimbledon,” she wrote on her Instagram story.
“I’ve done everything possible to try to get to the start line tomorrow but after a final scan tonight, the niggle I’ve been managing has developed into a stress fracture,” she added.
Did Raducanu’s injury worsen in Wimbledon practice session?
The youngster had trained for an hour at Aorangi Park on Saturday. She felt discomfort while playing Anna Kalinskaya in a practice game. Since winning the US Open title in 2021, Raducanu has faced several injury issues, which have hugely impacted her growing career.
