Ben Duckett saved his best performance for the series finale against India, producing a sensational ODI knock at Lord’s to turn the decider in England’s favour. After an inconsistent run in the previous matches, the left-hander found his rhythm on a batting-friendly surface, combining with Jacob Bethell to put together a record-breaking opening partnership of 192 runs after England opted to bat first. Duckett’s brilliant 141 off 120 balls not only became his career-best ODI score but also saw him break Viv Richards’ long-standing record for the highest individual ODI score at Lord’s, which had stood for 47 years. .

Ben Duckett Rewrites Lord’s Record Books After Breaking Viv Richards’ 47-Year-Old ODI Milestone

Ben Duckett delivered a historic performance in the third ODI against India at Lord’s, producing a career-best 141 to break Viv Richards’ 47-year-old record for the highest individual ODI score at the iconic venue. The England opener’s brilliant knock off 120 balls helped the hosts take control of the series decider, while also making him the first batter in the three-match series to register a century. Duckett reached the three-figure mark in 108 deliveries before continuing his knock to rewrite the record books at the Home of Cricket.

The previous Lord’s ODI record belonged to West Indies legend Viv Richards, who scored an unbeaten 138 against England in the 1979 World Cup final. Duckett surpassed that landmark in the final stages of his innings before being dismissed by Prince Yadav for 141. His innings was built on flawless timing and aggressive stroke play as he punished India’s bowlers, driving through the offside, attacking short deliveries and keeping the scoreboard moving. His 192-run opening partnership with Jacob Bethell provided England with the perfect start after they chose to bat first on a flat surface.

The century also marked a much-needed return to form for Duckett in ODI cricket. Despite being a key figure in England’s Test setup, the left-hander had struggled for consistency in the 50-over format and had gone 16 innings without a hundred since his previous ODI century against Australia in the 2025 Champions Trophy. His latest innings ended that drought in style, with Duckett becoming only the sixth England opener to score both an ODI and Test century at Lord’s while guiding his team towards a commanding position against India.
