England and Sri Lanka will face off in the opening T20I of their three-match series at the Utilita Bowl in Southampton on September 15, 2026. The match is scheduled for 6:30 PM local time, which translates to 11:00 PM IST. England will head into the contest with confidence after dominating Sri Lanka in their previous bilateral T20I series, securing a 3-0 clean sweep earlier this year.

Both sides, however, have been hit by injury concerns ahead of the series. England will be without key players including Phil Salt, Jacob Bethell and Sam Curran, while Harry Brook has been handed the captaincy. Sri Lanka will be led by Charith Asalanka in the absence of Kusal Mendis, who is sidelined with a hamstring injury, with Binura Fernando also ruled out due to a back issue. The visitors have added Dilshan Madushanka and Tharindu Rathnayake as replacements, while England have handed a maiden T20I call-up to in-form T20 Blast batter Aneurin Donald. Sri Lanka will also be looking to recover after suffering two heavy nine-wicket defeats to the England Lions in their warm-up games.
