Madrid is ready for its first Formula 1 qualifying session, and the new Madring is about to find out who can tame it when the pressure rises. After Friday’s opening running revealed a tight, technical circuit where every mistake can be costly, Saturday’s qualifying will decide who gets the best launch for the Spanish Grand Prix. With FP3 underway, teams now have one final chance to fine-tune their cars before the fight for pole begins.

F1 Spanish Grand Prix 2026: What Happened On Friday?
The first day at Madring gave teams their first real indication of how the new circuit behaves. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli ended FP2 fastest with a 1:33.662, just 0.113 seconds ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc, while Lewis Hamilton was third. George Russell, who topped FP1, finished fifth in FP2.
The session was interrupted by a red flag after Arvid Lindblad crashed at Turn 13. The tight layout and close walls immediately became a talking point, while Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz struggled for outright pace, finishing 17th and 16th respectively in FP2.
The Madrid circuit is making its Formula 1 debut this weekend, combining public roads and purpose-built sections across a 5.414-kilometre layout. It features 22 corners, two DRS zones and the heavily banked La Monumental, which has up to 24% banking.
F1 Spanish Grand Prix 2026 Qualifying Start Time:
