The Three Lions picked up a dominant victory, with Harry Kane leading the way with a brace. Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford also struck in the Group L clash as England wrapped up a 4-1 win to kick off the competition as the favourites. Tuchel, overseeing the proceedings from the sidelines, appeared animated on several occasions, as Croatia equalised twice in the first half. England, however, gained full control in the last 45 minutes, as Luka Modric and his men struggled to keep up with their high press.
Why did Tuchel confront Pickford during England vs Croatia?
As the broadcaster’s camera showed, Tuchel had a war of words with Pickford, expressing his discontent over a poor decision with the ball. There was reportedly confusion in the backline early in the first half as Pickford lost his balance and failed to follow his manager’s instructions.
As claimed by the pitchside reporters, Tuchel was fuming after the goalie apparently made an error in distribution. “You know what you’re supposed to do, do as I told you,” the England coach reportedly shouted from the touchline.
How did England fare against Croatia?
England looked sloppy in some cases ahead of the break. Kane scored from the spot to put them ahead, but the lead didn’t last long. The England captain restored the advantage in the 42nd minute but once again, Croatia came back with a stoppage-time strike by Petar Musa. Bellingham broke the shackles right after the restart, while Rashford increased the lead late in the second half. Despite conceding two goals, Pickford looked solid in front of the goal, making three key saves during the 90-minute play.
