IND vs AFG, ODI series: Team India’s star batter Rohit Sharma was seen falling flat on his face in a video that has gone viral on social media on June 3, Wednesday. As a result, reports have been stating that the right-hander will miss the first two ODI series against Afghanistan, scheduled for later this month over the injury sustained owing to the fall.

IND vs AFG, ODI series: Has Rohit Sharma been ruled out of the first two 50-over games against Afghanistan?

In the video surfaced on social media, Rohit was seen walking in a building with a few security personnel and tripped and fell, thereby falling flat on his face. According to a claim via X, Rohit sustained a knee injury and it is serious enough to rule him out of the first two ODIs of the series, with Cricbuzz being cited as the source. Nevertheless, Cricbuzz, which is a highly reliable platform has not published any such news. Hence, the 39-year-old likely only had a casual fall and should be good to play in the series against Afghanistan.

IND vs AFG, ODI series: How has Rohit Sharma performed in ODI cricket, of late?

The Nagpur-born cricketer, who has retired from Tests and T20Is, remains active only in the 50-over format at the international level. While Rohit clinched the Player of the Series award during the tour of Australia late last year, his returns have not been as expected following that. The right-handed batter scored two half-centuries in the three-game ODI series against South Africa but notched scores of 26, 24 and 11 against New Zealand, who registered a stunning series victory. Rohit’s stint with the Mumbai Indians wasn’t that inspiring either, headlined by missing majority of the matches due to the hamstring injury sustained during the fixture against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). In 9 matches, the veteran managed 283 runs at 35.37 as his modest returns adversely impacted the Mumbai Indians’ campaign in IPL 2026. The five-time champions missed out on playoffs, finishing 9th in the points table.

But fans can expect the right-handed batter to step up against Afghanistan as Team India look to start their home season on a good note. Before the three-game ODI series, the Men in Blue will play a one-off Test against Afghanistan in Mullanpur.
