With England Test captain Ben Stokes’ captaincy and playing future in limbo following the recent nightclub incident, a viral video of the seam-bowling all-rounder has surfaced of him playing street cricket in London. In a video surfaced on June 9, Tuesday, the star cricketer was seen in casual clothes and was having fun while batting in street cricket.

In the video, Stokes was seen wearing a white T-shirt, white hat and black shorts while batting. However, it’s worth noting that it is approximately a two-year old clip that has surfaced now, given the all-rounder is heavily in the news in the media of almost all the cricket-playing nations.

Will Ben Stokes retire from international cricket?
A nightclub incident following the first Test against New Zealand at Lord’s, in which Stokes and fast bowler Gus Atkinson were involved in a spat with Rugby player Totoa Auvaa has forced the England Cricket Board (ECB) to investigate it since it was a breach of protocols by the duo. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the incident left an English security officer needing stitches and put the limelight back on the England cricket team over the ‘drinking culture’ and behaviour. Both Stokes and Atkinson are likely to face disciplinary action, there are strong suggestions that the latter could also call time on his illustrious 15-year-career.
ESPN Cricinfo reported that the ECB gave him the option of voluntarily stepping down as captain and continue in the team as a player. If the 35-year-old doesn’t take that option, ECB can still remove him from the post of a leader for breaking the protocols. However, retiring from the game altogether would be nuclear option. Stokes’ form with the bat over the 2025-26 Ashes series and the opening Test against New Zealand has also left a lot to be desired. Despite England convincingly beating the Kiwis in the first Test of the summer, the captain’s poor returns of 0 and 12 with the bat couldn’t be ignored.
Due to the incident, the management have been forced to delay the naming of their squad for the second Test against the Black Caps, beginning on June 17 at The Kia Oval in London.
