Porto vs Manchester City lineups: FC Porto host Manchester City FC at the Estadio do Dragao for the opening matchday of the 2026-27 Champions League league phase, marking Porto’s first appearance in the competition since 2023-24 and Enzo Maresca’s Champions League debut as City boss. The Man City starting lineup suggests the manager wants to go all-out for three points in the UCL opener.

Francesco Farioli’s side arrive full of confidence, having won seven straight matches across all competitions and topped the Primeira Liga table with a perfect start, most recently edging Moreirense 2-1. Their form has been built on defensive solidity, though Farioli faces a lengthy injury and suspension list, including Jan Bednarek and Vasco Sousa.

City, meanwhile, have also won all three of their Premier League matches this season, though their most recent outing, a narrow 1-0 win over Coventry City, was less convincing than their earlier results.

Erling Haaland remains their standout threat, sitting just two goals shy of the club’s all-time Champions League scoring record. Maresca’s squad is otherwise close to full strength, with only Jérémy Doku and Nico O’Reilly sidelined.

Historically, City hold the edge, unbeaten in four previous meetings with Porto, including a 2020 goalless draw at this same venue.

Manchester City Team News For FC Porto

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca has opted for an attack-minded starting XI for their UEFA Champions League 2026-27 opener, with Erling Haaland leading the line and Phil Foden, Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo providing support around him.

Gianluigi Donnarumma starts in goal, while Matheus Nunes, Ruben Dias, Marc Guehi and Josko Gvardiol form the defensive unit. Ayyoub Bouaddi and Enzo Fernandez are tasked with controlling midfield and progressing possession.

The selection means Maresca wants Man City to combine defensive stability with quick attacking rotations. Cherki’s creativity between the lines could be particularly important, while Haaland remains the focal point. City’s midfield has also been reshaped, with Fernandez offering progressive passing and Bouaddi adding energy.
