Why did Javier Milei skip FIFA World Cup final despite Donald Trump’s invitation?
Despite US President Donald Trump’s request, Javier Milei didn’t attend the FIFA World Cup 2026 final at the New York New Jersey Stadium. When asked about the reason, the Argentine President cited superstition, as he didn’t want to be present at the ground of the big day. However, La Albiceleste could not take home what could be their fourth World Cup title.
The players, including Lionel Messi, were devastated after the final loss, as in the end, Ferran Torres’ only strike decided the result. Despite pushing for the equaliser deep into the stoppage time, Argentina were unable to turn the tables. The Spanish defence, spearheaded by a young Pau Cubarsi, held firm till the final whistle and bagged the second title for their nation.
Donald Trump was present in the post-match ceremony. The US President handed the trophy to Spain captain Rodri, and also took part in medal distribution.
