The decision followed growing requests from students, opposition leaders and others to provide relief, considering the match’s late-night timing. Former Education Minister V Sivankutty had earlier highlighted that attending classes the following morning would be challenging for students after staying up for the World Cup final. The holiday is aimed at helping students and institutions adjust to the overnight football spectacle without affecting academic commitments.
