Nathan Ellis, Tim David, Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins have been rested. These players are either recovering from injuries or are having their workload managed. Cummins, Hazlewood and David are still working on their fitness.
Sean Abbott, Mahli Beardman, Ben Dwarshuis, Jack Edwards, Mitch Owen, Josh Philippe and Matt Renshaw have been added to the squad as cover options.
Players who are still playing in the Big Bash League (BBL) will join the team after their franchise seasons finish.
Young fast bowler Mahli Beardman and all-rounder Jack Edwards have been rewarded for their strong performances in the BBL. Both players are yet to make their international debut, although they were part of Australia’s squad during the home series against India earlier this summer.

Australia’s Chair of Selectors George Bailey said the series is a great chance for young players and those close to selection to gain valuable experience ahead of the T20 World Cup, especially with matches being played in Pakistan.
Bailey also said that Beardman has trained with the team several times before, while Edwards was part of the squad for the final one-day international against India in Sydney last year.
All matches of the series will be played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on January 29, January 31 and February 1.
