There were two thrilling goal-fest games at the FIFA World Cup 2026 as Germany hammered Curacao 7-1 while Sweden crushed Tunisia 5-1. Fans got a flashback of some of the most goal-fest games that have been played in the history of football’s biggest stage.

Germany recorded an eight-goal game against Curacao, who were making their World Cup debut. Meanwhile, Sweden had a six-goal game against Tunisia. Although these two games did not make it to the list of the top goal-fest games played in the history of the FIFA World Cup, these were definitely games worthy of mention.

Germany’s Historic Night Against Curacao

Germany’s 7-1 triumph was memorable for more than just the score line. The four-time champions surpassed Brazil’s long-standing record for the most goals scored in FIFA World Cup history, taking their overall tally to 239 goals.

The match also delivered a historic moment for Curacao. Appearing at their first-ever World Cup, the Caribbean nation stunned Germany briefly when Livano Comenencia scored their maiden World Cup goal in the 21st minute to level the contest at 1-1.

Germany, however, responded in ruthless fashion. Kai Havertz struck twice, while Felix Nmecha, Nico Schlotterbeck, Jamal Musiala, Nathaniel Brown and Deniz Undav all found the net in a commanding performance.

With eight goals scored in total, Germany’s victory enters a statistical tie for the 11th highest-scoring match category in World Cup history alongside several iconic encounters, including Germany’s famous 7-1 demolition of Brazil in the 2014 semi-final.

Sweden Record Their Biggest World Cup Scoring Display In Decades

Sweden’s 5-1 victory over Tunisia may not have attracted the same global attention, but it was equally significant from a historical perspective.

A brace from Yasin Ayari and goals from Alexander Isak, Viktor Gyökeres and Mattias Svanberg powered Sweden to their biggest scoring performance at a World Cup since their 8-0 win over Cuba in 1938.

The six-goal encounter sits in a large group of matches tied for 33rd place on the all-time highest-scoring list. It shares company with memorable World Cup classics such as Argentina’s 4-2 victory over France in the 2022 final and Spain’s stunning 5-1 win over the Netherlands in 2014.
