Legendary Indian cricketer MS Dhoni broke the internet on Monday, as he broke his long-time social media hiatus and shared a heartfelt post, congratulating the Indian cricket team for winning the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Suryakumar Yadav put up a dominating show against New Zealand and defeated them by 96 runs to win the T20 World Cup 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Indian cricket team scripted history as they became the only team to win the prestigious trophy of the T20 World Cup for the third time. India is also the first nation to win the cup on home soil.
Meanwhile, the final clash turned out to be a night to remember for the cricket fans as many legendary cricketers attended the event in Ahmedabad. Legendary Indian captains Kapil Dev, MS Dhoni, and Rohit Sharma also graced the occasion to extend their support to the Indian players.
After India’s sensational win in Ahmedabad, the former Indian captain took to his official Instagram account and penned a heartfelt note, congratulating the team for their efforts. He also urged the head-coach and his former teammate, Gautam Gambhir, to smile more, as it looks great on his face. Talking about Gautam Gambhir and MS Dhoni, the two shared many memorable batting partnerships in the past, especially in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup Final against the Sri Lankan national cricket team. Their relationship has often been discussed, particularly after Gambhir spoke about not idolising certain individuals in the team. However, whenever Gambhir and Dhoni have appeared together in public, they have always been friendly and respectful, often sharing a laugh.
Meanwhile, Gautam Gambhir dedicated India's T20 World Cup 2026 win to the former head-coach Rahul Dravid, VVS Laxman, and Ajit Agarkar, for their contribution in building a strong base for team India.
"I would dedicate this trophy to Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. To Rahul bhai for putting the Indian team in a place and Laxman for creating the pipeline at the CoE," Gautam Gambhir said at the post-match press-conference.
"Ajit Agarkar, who took a lot of flak and worked with a lot of honesty. And to Jay bhai. During my lowest ebb in my tenure after losing to NZ and then SA (at home in Test series in 2024 and 2025), he called me," he added.
