BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia has come up with a witty reply after reports of Gautam Gambhir’s sacking as the head coach of India have been doing the rounds. Saikia said that people are entitled to have their opinions but the BCCI has some qualified individuals to do their job.

“India is a country of 140 crore people, and everybody is a cricket expert. Everybody will have an opinion. It is a democratic country, and we cannot gag anybody. All the opinion makers are free to give their opinions, including the media. There is a lot of speculated news in the domain, and also various ex-cricketers, cricketers, or other people are also giving opinions. In social media, it is full of them,” Saikia said while speaking to Sportstar.

“But the thing is that we have a cricket committee in the BCCI, who are ex-cricketers. They are dedicated and make all the decisions. On the other hand, for team selection, we have five selectors. They also have to qualify to get into that position. They are the people who take that also. For every decision, there can be a counter-opinion.”

“So, those opinions we have to address, and we have to consider. But the final decision is always taken by the cricket committee as well as the selectors,” he added.

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir has been under scrutiny after the team hasn’t been able to get impressive results. Barring the success in T20Is, Team India has generally struggled to get fruitful results especially in the Test format.

The Indian team suffered a couple of whitewash series defeat first against New Zealand and the against South Africa at home. The side also lost the series in Australia and following these results, India are now staring at an early exit from the World Test Championship (WTC) race. Moreover, the run in the ODI format hasn’t been great as well. After losing the series in Australia, The Men in Blue lost to New Zealand at home.

The Suryakumar Yadav-led T20I team though has had a good run in the five-match series against New Zealand and have already taken an unassailable 3-0 lead.
