With Team India suffering back-to-back T20I series defeats months after being crowned as World T20 champions for the second time, Gautam Gambhir’s coaching tenure has sharply come under criticism. After the Men in Blue were stunned by Ireland 2-0, England have outplayed them in an even more comprehensive way, with the scoreline of the five-game T20I series standing at 3-0, with one game to go and another washed out. While Gambhir’s contract runs until the 2027 World Cup, will the BCCI replace him before that?

According to media reports earlier in the day, the BCCI was planning a meeting soon to discuss the tenure of the support staff, given the recent results. Nevertheless, a PTI journalist’s latest development states that there will be no discussion about the tenure but only about the shortfalls in the ongoing Ireland and England tour debacle that has resulted in India going winless in six straight games. Hence, it is understood that Gambhir will see out his tenure.
As of now, there is no possibility of any discussions on tenure of any support staff. The review meeting of BCCI is strictly about discussing the “shortfalls” in twin debacle as per what BCCI secretary told @PTI_News

While the former left-handed batter’s stint has seen the Men in Blue capture three ICC titles, including a successful defence of the T20 World Cup title, there have been several crushing losses too. Under Gambhir, India’s unbeaten run in home Test series ended after 12 years, while they sacrificed the Border-Gavaskar Trophy after a decade of holding it. Additionally, India lost their first bilateral ODI leg to Sri Lanka after 27 years and New Zealand went on to register their first away 50-overs series win over the sub-continent nation. India had also made it to the first two World Test Championship (WTC) finals but failed to reach the third.
Can Gautam Gambhir help India avoid a series whitewash against England?
With the series already sealed for England after winning three consecutive games, the Englishmen are now targeting a 4-0 scoreline against India. It will perhaps be the first series whitewash for India in T20Is, involving at least three games.
Another win for England will also mean that the Men in Blue will lose its No.1 ICC ranking in the shortest format. The fifth and final T20I will take place on July 11 at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.
