He carried that form into the second round where he faced a baseline war against teenage prodigy Jakub Mensik. Dimitrov’s superior grass-court craftiness allowed him to outlast the Czech young gun in four sets, booking his third-round spot with a 7-6(5), 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win.
Matteo Berrettini’s return to the courts of the All England Club kicked off with a first-round classic against grand slam veteran Stan Wawrinka, out-slugging the Swiss legend 6-7(7), 7-6(16), 7-6(7), 7-6(5) in an incredible match that featured three tiebreaks.
Berrettini showed zero signs of fatigue in the second round, where he lined up against the 20th seed Arthur Fils. Relying on his thunderous serve and a biting backhand slice, Berrettini overpowered the young Frenchman in four sets 6-4, 7-5, 3-6, 6-3.
