The Hardik Pandya trade saga has taken another unexpected turn. Just when the Mumbai Indians all-rounder appeared to be heading towards the Chennai Super Kings, a new report has thrown the Kolkata Knight Riders into the picture and this time, Pandya is being linked with the KKR captaincy.

The speculation began with a cryptic social media post that appeared to point towards Pandya in purple and gold. If the reports prove accurate, it would mark a stunning twist in one of the biggest potential moves ahead of the IPL 2027 season. However, neither Mumbai Indians nor Kolkata Knight Riders have officially confirmed any trade involving Pandya.

The recent wave of speculation comes from a post by RevSportz journalist Rohit Juglan. He shared a message on social media reading: “Update. HP (C). PS – sorry CSK fans”.

The message immediately caught the attention of IPL fans. “HP” stands for Hardik Pandya, while the purple heart is associated with the Kolkata Knight Riders. The “(C)” has been interpreted as a reference to captaincy, suggesting Pandya could be in line to lead KKR.

Hardik Pandya To CSK Rumours

Before the latest KKR buzz, the Chennai Super Kings had been at the centre of the Pandya trade conversation. Social media had been flooded with theories about a potential blockbuster move involving Mumbai Indians and CSK.

Some reports even suggested a multi-player swap, with CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube reportedly being discussed as part of a possible deal involving Pandya.

That speculation had made Pandya one of the biggest names in the IPL trade window. The latest KKR reports, however, have completely changed the direction of the conversation.

Hardik Pandya as Mumbai Indians Captain

Hardik Pandya made his return to the Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2024 Indian Premier League season. After leading the Gujarat Titans for two years and winning a championship, Mumbai brought him back, taking over his existing contract, paying his ₹15 crore salary to Gujarat to make him their new team captain.

Unfortunately, Pandya’s performance during his Mumbai Indians captaincy has been highly inconsistent. In 2024, he struggled with 216 runs and 11 wickets as MI finished last. He bounced back in 2025, leading Mumbai to the playoffs alongside a 5/36 bowling spell, but dipped again in 2026 with just 206 runs as the team suffered another four-win campaign.
