Veteran Australian men’s cricketer Mitchell Starc was left in splits after Harmanpreet Kaur’s scoop shot failed terribly during the second ODI between India women and Australia women on February 27, Friday at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. Starc, who is commentating for 7cricket in the series, couldn’t control his laughter at the Indian skipper’s shot that ultimately hit her helmet.

Harmanpreet Kaur undergoes mandatory concussion check

The incident occurred in the 39th over of the innings sent down by pacer Megan Schutt, who bowled a slower delivery. The right-handed batter set herself for the scoop quite early. With the off-cutter arriving quite slowly onto Harmanpreet, the scoop shot didn’t quite connect and hit her on the helmet. The 36-year-old had to undergo a mandatory concussion check, moments after that.

Meanwhile, Harmanpreet (54) and Pratika Rawal (52) were the only Indian batters to score fifty runs as the tourists made a respectable score of 251/9 in their stipulated 50 overs. The likes of Smriti Mandhana (31) and Kashvee Gautam (25) got starts but failed to convert it into substantial scores. Ashleigh Gardner, Annabel Sutherland and Alana King had picked up two wickets each, while Schutt and Nicola Carey snared one apiece

Australia already hold a 1-0 lead in the three-game ODI series as they won the opening game by six wickets after hunting down 215 only in 38.2 overs. The home side will back themselves to chase down the target of 252 and register a series win over the World Champions. With skipper Alyssa Healy playing her final ODI series, the victory will be a fitting tribute for her.
