PLAYERS SHAKING HANDS AT THE END OF THE MATCH AND PETERMAN HIGH-FIVES TEAMMATE BRETT GALLANT STORY: Italy clinched their first win of the Games after a comeback to beat France in their opening game of the Women's Ice Hockey on Thursday (February 5). Gabrielle De Serres had opened the scoring in the power play for France, but Italy's Kayla Tutino levelled the match before the end of the 1st period. And it was Italy who edged in the second, through Rebecca Roccella, before Matilde Fantin and Kristin Della Rovere added gloss to the score in the final period. Earlier, Sweden also came from behind to ease past Germany 4-1, as the Germans were unable to mark their return to the Olympics for the first time since 2014 with a victory. Lina Ljungblom was the hero for the Swedes, scoring twice, including a 12th minute equaliser, before Thea Johansson and Mira Jungaker took the game away from Germany. Both sides are favourites to progress from Group B, with Sweden securing a big scalp with victory in their first game. Elsewhere, in the mixed doubles curling, Norway were consigned to a third defeat of the games – and their second of the day – as Canada ran out 6-3 winners. It was the perfect start for Canada, securing a steal in the first end, and Jocelyn Peterman's shot of the game took them to 3-1 up after three ends, a lead they would not relinquish.  And the United States won their second game of the day, defeating Switzerland 7-4, having raced into a 5-2 lead at the halfway stage, courtesy of a steal of two in the fourth end. Swiss pairing Briar Schwaller-Huerlimann and Yannick Schwaller would concede after seven legs, as the United States and Canada joined Great Britain and Sweden with two wins from two in the standings.
