After a month of entertainment, thrill, drama, and controversies, the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has finally reached its final stage, with the Indian cricket team all set to lock horns with New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday. The Indian cricket team reached the final after defeating England by 7 runs last night at the iconic Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. With this, Team India became the first team to qualify for the final four times, and also the team to defend their trophy for the first time.
On the other hand, the New Zealand cricket team, led by Mitchell Santner, left everyone shocked with their stunning performances in the tournament, defeating the T20 World Cup 2024 finalists South Africa by 9 wickets.
Now, all eyes turn to the much-awaited final in Ahmedabad, where India and New Zealand will battle for the last time in the ongoing tournament. The winner of the final showdown will not only take away the prestigious trophy but will also get the biggest share of the prize money.
How Much Semi-Finalists and Super 8 Teams Earn
The International Cricket Council has announced a mammoth prize pool of $13.5 million for the T20 World Cup 2026. It has to be noted that, all thanks to the strong sponsorship and broadcast deals, the prize pool for the T20 WC 2026 is about 20% higher than the 2024 edition of the tournament.
The team that wins the tournament will receive $3 million as prize money. The runners-up will also walk away with a significant reward of $1.6 million. No matter whether India or New Zealand wins the final, both teams are already assured of a big prize money payout.
The ICC has also made sure that teams doing well in the later stages earn good prize money. Teams that lose in the semi-finals will get $790,000 each, while teams that reach the Super 8 stage will receive $380,000.Â
A total of 20 teams participated in the ongoing tournament. The teams that failed to reach the Semi-Finals and were knocked out in the group stage will also not leave empty-handed. Each of those teams will receive $250,000 as prize money.
