Ishan Kishan revealed he was dealing with a personal tragedy on the eve of the T20 World Cup 2026 final and credited teammate Hardik Pandya for helping him cope during the difficult period.

IND vs NZ, T20 World Cup 2026: Indian opener Ishan Kishan completely stole the show at the Narendra Modi Stadium with his sensational all-around skills as he helped the Indian cricket team defeat New Zealand in the T20 World Cup 2026 final clash.
During the IND vs NZ final clash, Ishan Kishan played a terrific knock of 54 runs off 25 balls, smashing 4 fours and 4 sixes. Later, he impressed one and all with his athleticism as he took three stunning catches in the outfield. His all-around contribution helped the Indian cricket team defeat New Zealand and win the prestigious ICC T20 World Cup 2026 trophy.
While the cricketer celebrated India’s victory in joy, he was also battling a personal tragedy and was hiding the pain behind his smile. During the post-match presentation, Ishan Kishan revealed that his cousin had passed away in a road accident. He dedicated India’s win to her and also revealed that it was Hardik Pandya, who motivated him to deal with the personal loss and focus on the game. Ishan revealed:
“To be honest, before the game, I lost my cousin sister yesterday in a car accident. I played well for her. I spoke to Hardik bhai, he said to put the team ahead. I dedicate this win to her, and today is Women’s Day, so it makes it all the more special.”
Later, Ishan Kishan’s father, Mr. Pranav Kumar Pandey, also opened up about the personal tragedy, and he revealed that he was on his way to Ahmedabad to watch the game; however, he was unable to attend the game because of the unfortunate incident. Ishan’s father revealed that both Ishan’s cousin sister and her husband had passed away. The couple is left with two children, who somehow managed to survive. Ishan Kishan’s father revealed:
“Anarth ho gaya. Hum log bahut badi musibat mei hai. We are all in shock. Ishan wanted to visit us, but he couldn’t because of the final match. He is absolutely distraught.”
Notably, Ishan Kishan was the second-highest run-getter for India in the just-concluded tournament. He amassed 317 runs at an average of 30.255 at a strike rate of 193.27 with three half-centuries to his name.
