Devdutt Padikkal Makes Big Jump
Devdutt Padikkal has climbed five places to 54th in the latest Test batting rankings after an outstanding series against Sri Lanka. The Indian batter was his team’s leading run-scorer on the Island nation, finishing the two-Test tour with 328 runs and two centuries.
Padikkal scored 167 in the first innings of the first Test at Galle, helping India secure a 165-run victory. He followed that with another century in the second Test, scoring 117 off 193 balls.
His consistent performances have earned him a significant rise in the rankings and marked an impressive return to the Test side.
Shubman Gill Drops Two Places
India captain Shubman Gill has slipped two positions and is now ranked ninth among Test batters. Gill managed only one half-century across three innings during India’s Sri Lanka tour.
Despite Gill’s drop, India have another batter inside the top 10. Rishabh Pant remains seventh, making him the highest-ranked Indian batter in the Test rankings. Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to occupy 11th place.
Bumrah Slips to Third
There has also been a change in the Test bowling rankings involving Jasprit Bumrah. The Indian pace spearhead has dropped from second to third, with Australia’s Mitchell Starc retaining the No. 1 position and New Zealand’s Matt Henry moving ahead of Bumrah.
Bumrah missed the Sri Lanka tour due to an impact injury to his knee, which has kept him out of action since mid-July.
Ollie Robinson Enters Top Five
England pacer Ollie Robinson has made a major rise after his impressive performances against Pakistan. After taking eight wickets across two Tests, including a strong performance at Lord’s, Robinson climbed six places to fifth in the Test bowling rankings.
Among other notable movements, Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando moved up four places to 11th, while Josh Tongue rose to equal 13th and Pakistan’s Mohammad Abbas jumped 10 places to equal 15th.
Brevis Climbs in T20I Rankings
In the T20I batting rankings, South Africa’s Dewald Brevis climbed six places to fourth after scores of 75, 75 not out and 41 in the ongoing tri-series in Namibia.
India’s Ishan Kishan remains No. 1, while Abhishek Sharma is third. Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan continues to hold the top position among T20I bowlers.
