Washington Sundar will miss India’s series-deciding third ODI against England after suffering a right hamstring injury during the second match in Cardiff. To cover for Sundar’s absence, the Men’s Selection Committee has drafted in Harsh Dubey as his replacement for the decisive encounter. The BCCI also stated that Sundar will undergo further scans and consult a specialist to assess the extent of the injury and determine the next course of treatment.
Harsh Dubey Replaces Injured Washington Sundar in India’s ODI Squad

The all-rounder picked up the injury while completing his first run and was later seen receiving treatment on the sidelines before leaving the field in visible discomfort after his dismissal. India batting coach Sitanshu Kotak admitted after the defeat in Cardiff that Sundar’s injury appeared serious. “Washington’s injury, which he had when he ran his first run to mid-off. His hamstring, I think, looks like a bad injury, and the next ball he got out,” Kotak told reporters during the post-match press conference. Sundar had played an important role in India’s victory in the series opener with an unbeaten half-century, but he managed only two runs in the second ODI as England levelled the three-match series.
To fill the vacancy, the Men’s Selection Committee has brought in Harsh Dubey for the series decider. The bowling all-rounder enjoyed a productive IPL 2026 campaign with Sunrisers Hyderabad after being retained for ₹30 lakh. Across eight matches, Dubey claimed eight wickets while also making useful contributions with the bat in the lower order, striking at 144.44. His standout spell came against Delhi Capitals, where he returned figures of 3/12, while another impressive performance saw him pick up 2/18 against Lucknow Super Giants, underlining his value as a dependable spin option.
