Sanju Samson heads into the IND vs ENG T20 World Cup 2026 semifinal on the back of a career-defining knock, but England remain a tricky opponent. Can he flip the script at Wankhede? Find out how Samson has fared against England in T20Is so far.

Sanju Samson's worrying record against Jofra Archer

Even bowlers like Jason Holder, who generates extra bounce and Shamar Joseph, who bowls express pace, hardly troubled Samson on a giddy night in Kolkata. But England's tearaway pacer Jofra Archer will be licking his lips at the top of his mark when the 31-year-old stands to face him at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday. In five innings, all of which came during England's tour of India last year, Archer claimed the elegant right-hander's batter on three occasions, averaging 8.33

Samson's T20I record against England also makes for a grim reading as he has managed only 51 runs in five innings, averaging 10.20 alongside a woeful strike rate of 118.60. Australia, New Zealand and Sri Lanka are the only opposition that Samson averages less than 15 against, having played at least in five innings. It was in the first

Did West Indies try enough short-pitched balls against Sanju Samson?

The elegant right-handed batter became Archer's victims in the first three T20Is against England at home in a series that saw him aggregate only 51 runs in five innings. The remaining two dismissals also came to Saqib Mahmood and Mark Wood - via short-pitched deliveries. West Indies likely didn't test Samson with the short-pitched balls enough but a fired up Archer will take it upon himself to target a supposed weakness. There is also merit in dropping one of the four spinners in Will Jacks, Rehan Ahmed, Liam Dawson or Adil Rashid and bring in a fast bowler in Josh Tongue.

Tongue is yet to play a T20I and could find himself under pressure if thrown into a cauldron to make his first appearance. But his awkward release point and the Wankhede Stadium's potential to produce extra bounce could give a hard time to Samson. Should England opt to play an extra fast bowler, the toss up on who goes out may be between Dawson or Rehan. England will still have three able spinners to exploit the conditions if dew doesn't come down.

Either ways, Samson will be heavily under the spotlight as fans will expect him to carry on from where he left off in Kolkata.
