Amid all the reports of retirement due to ever-increasing age, Dhoni is all set to return for the 2026 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The legendary keeper-batter had captained the Super Kings in a few games in IPL 2025 due to Ruturaj Gaikwad sustaining a shoulder injury midway through the tournament. Nevertheless, the Yellow Army still created an unwanted record of finishing at the bottom of the points table for the very first time. Although Gaikwad will return for IPL 2026, the Super Kings have undergone a massive overhaul ahead of the upcoming edition and they will hope it pays off.
The Ranchi-born cricketer is a custodian of several IPL records, including being the most-capped player, most matches as captain and most wins as skipper. Additionally, Dhoni jointly holds the record of registering most number of IPL title wins as captain, with five alongside Rohit Sharma. IPL 2026 is likely to kickstart on March 28, with the final set for May 31.
