BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla clarified on social media that a video circulating online, which shows him speaking about the upcoming T20 World Cup 2026 match between India and Pakistan, was altered using AI. The controversy began after a Pakistani cricket show on ARY News, hosted by former captain Shoaib Malik, aired the edited clip. The video was presented as Shukla’s reaction to Pakistan’s decision to first boycott and then agree to play against India in Colombo on Sunday. However, Shukla said the video was fake and that the audio had been changed using AI technology.

“A video of my remarks on the India-Pakistan World Cup match has been manipulated using AI to alter the audio. These statements are not mine. I urge everyone not to believe or share this misleading content and to report it wherever it appears,” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter). The edited video suggested a different story about the situation between Pakistan and the ICC over the match. Earlier, Pakistan had announced it would boycott the game in support of Bangladesh. But after talks with the ICC, Pakistan changed its decision and agreed to play.

In the fake video aired on ARY News, Shukla appeared to say that the ICC acted after repeated requests from the BCCI to convince Pakistan to play against India. However, his real statement was different. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, Shukla praised the ICC for finding a peaceful solution that ensured the India-Pakistan match would be played as scheduled. He said the ICC chairman and representatives held discussions with the Pakistan Cricket Board and the Bangladesh Cricket Board to resolve the issue.

Shukla said he was happy that an amicable solution was reached and that the decision gave priority to the spirit and importance of cricket.
