India and Sri Lanka are set to renew their Test rivalry, but the numbers already make for interesting reading. India have not lost a Test series to Sri Lanka in 18 years, with their last series defeat coming back in 2008. Since then, India have largely had the upper hand, including a dominant 304-run victory in Galle in 2017. As Shubman Gill’s side prepares for another two-match series, starting on August 15, 2026, Sri Lanka will be hoping to finally rewrite a history that has favoured their neighbours.
The bilateral series features two Test matches. The first match is scheduled to be played at the Galle International Stadium from August 15 to 19, 2026. Following this, the teams will travel to Colombo for the second Test at the SSC Cricket Ground, taking place from August 23 to 27, 2026. Both fixtures will commence at 10:00 AM IST.
India will be captained by Shubman Gill, with KL Rahul taking on the role of vice-captain. The squad features regulars like Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant, alongside younger talents like Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel. Spin-bowling all-rounder Saransh Jain has earned his maiden Test call-up for this tour. However, the team faced a recent setback when premier fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out due to a knee injury; he has been replaced by Auqib Nabi.
The Sri Lankan squad will be led by captain Dhananjaya de Silva. Their full squad is being finalised.
