KL Rahul Smashes 9th ODI Century In Death-Overs Carnage
KL Rahul put on one of the finest middle-order displays of his ODI career under the afternoon sun in New Chandigarh.
He initially focused on rotating the strike with Ruturaj Gaikwad before shifting gears to launch a brutal assault on the West Indian pacers.
Rahul reached his ninth ODI century with a massive six over fine leg off Jayden Seales in the 46th over.
He finished his innings with 10 boundaries and six towering maximums, looting 22 runs in the 50th over to propel India past the 350-run mark.
Rohit Sharma Hits 92 After Early Gill And Kohli Shocks
Earlier in the day, Indian skipper Shubman Gill won the toss and opted to bat first on a fresh Mullanpur surface.
The start was disastrous for the hosts as Jayden Seales removed Gill for just 1 before cleaning up Virat Kohli for a first-ball duck in the very next delivery.
Rohit Sharma stepped up to counter-attack with immense authority, pulling and driving his way to 92 off 85 balls.
Rohit added 114 runs for the third wicket with Ruturaj Gaikwad (57) to completely shift the momentum back in India’s favor before falling eight runs short of a well-deserved century.
Quick Cameos By Naman Dhir And Debutant Anshul Kamboj
India maintained their high scoring tempo in the middle overs thanks to aggressive running from Naman Dhir.
Dhir chipped in with a brisk 30 off 21 balls, taking on spinner Gudakesh Motie to ensure the run rate never dropped.
Debutant all-rounder Anshul Kamboj also made an instant impression with the bat, clubbing two sixes in his 9-ball 17 before being run out in the penultimate over.
West Indies Need 352 Runs Under Lights
Jayden Seales was the standout bowler for the West Indies, picking up 3/68 in his 10 overs, while Keemo Paul bagged two wickets.
However, the Caribbean bowling attack bled 65 runs in the final five overs, handing India total control of the contest.
West Indies now face a daunting task of chasing down 352 under the floodlights to stop India from completing a clean sweep.
