Team India boast a strong T20I record at Chennai’s Chepauk, where spin-friendly conditions have often worked in their favour — a key factor ahead of the crucial T20 World Cup 2026 clash vs Zimbabwe. With the game's result having massive implications on their Super 8 qualification, it's worth looking at India's record in T20Is at the venue.

Team India yet to lose a T20I in Chennai

While the sample size of two matches is incredibly small, the Men in Blue's undefeated streak in T20Is in Chennai is enough to worry Zimbabwe. The Asian Giants played their first T20I in Chennai in November 2018 when they chased down 182 with six wickets to spare. Tilak Varma's heroics helped the hosts ace a chase of 166 last year against England. While India are a superior team to Zimbabwe on paper, the latter will also be playing their first T20I at the Chepauk.

"If we want to win the World Cup, we have to handle that pressure" - Sitanshu Kotak

During the press conference on Wednesday, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak brushed aside conversations about India's inability to handle pressure. Although Kotak admitted India's lack of partnerships in the previous game, he believes they will be alright once the momentum is in their hands. He elaborated, as quoted by NDTV:

"I honestly believe just because we lost one game and we did not have a good partnership and all, people talk more about it (pressure). But I honestly think they all are good enough to handle that pressure. If we want to win the World Cup, we have to handle that pressure. So, it's just, I'm personally looking for that momentum. Once we start getting that momentum again, if we do it from tomorrow, I think they will be picking up at the right time."

The Men in Blue last faced Zimbabwe in a T20 World Cup game in the 2022 edition and beat the African nation convincingly.
