India and Afghanistan begin their three-match T20I series on September 13, 2026, with the opening game set to take place at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi. The match is scheduled for a 7:30 PM IST start. India comes into the series after an inconsistent run in T20Is, including series defeats against Ireland and England, although they managed to pick up a win in Zimbabwe. The return of several key players has strengthened their squad, with captain Shreyas Iyer, Jasprit Bumrah, Varun Chakravarthy and Sanju Samson among the players expected to play important roles.
Afghanistan, meanwhile, will be eager to respond after a difficult recent stretch against India, having lost a one-off Test before suffering a 3-0 ODI series sweep in June. Rashid Khan and Naveen-ul-Haq return to bolster the Afghan attack, while Ibrahim Zadran will lead the side and Rahmanullah Gurbaz remains a key batting threat. Despite Afghanistan’s improvements, India have enjoyed the upper hand in their T20I meetings, winning seven of their nine previous encounters, giving the visitors a clear advantage heading into the series opener.
