Meet the New Names in India’s ODI Squad for Afghanistan Series
Not one, not two, but three fresh faces have broken into India’s ODI squad for the upcoming Afghanistan series. Prince Yadav, Gurnoor Brar, and Harsh Dubey have all earned their maiden ODI call-ups after being named in the 15-member squad announced by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee.
Speaking about the new inclusions, Ajit Agarkar said, “With Gurnoor, we have seen a lot of promise over the last season and a half. He is a tall guy with a bit of pace.” He also highlighted how conditions in South Africa are influencing selection plans, with the management keen to back bowlers who could thrive there in the future. On Prince Yadav, Agarkar added, “He has shown a lot of promise through the domestic season. Obviously, he bowled well in the IPL.”
Prince, who represents Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL, has impressed with 16 wickets in 12 matches this season. Harsh Dubey, the left-arm spinner from Vidarbha currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad, has continued his rise after strong domestic performances, including 133 first-class wickets. Meanwhile, Punjab pacer Gurnoor Brar’s breakthrough domestic campaign in 2024-25 proved hard to ignore, with the fast bowler finishing as the leading wicket-taker in the Ranji Trophy after picking up 26 wickets in seven matches.
