India vs England, 2nd ODI: Team India have suffered a decisive blow as Jofra Archer began his new spell with the vital wicket of Virat Kohli in the second ODI against England at the Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on July 16, Thursday. The 37-year-old looked set for a big hundred to keep the Men in Blue on track for a potentially match-winning total but Archer dented it by dismissing him for a run-a-ball 65.

With the Delhi-born cricketer notching figures of 5-0-24-1, Brook brought him back to break the promising partnership between Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. The Barbadian had almost got the better of the right-hander as he drew an under-edge off Kohli’s bat but it it didn’t quite carry to Jos Buttler behind the stumps. The very next delivery saw the former Indian captain tried to pull a length delivery; however, he only managed a top edge and it carried to Adil Rashid comfortably to third man. The first game also saw Archer dismiss the star batter.

With the 37-year-old departing for 37, it brought an end to a 67-run stand with Iyer. Kohli had also shared a 67-run partnership with Rohit Sharma, who made 26. Shubman Gill was the first batter to depart, dismissed by Gus Atkinson for 31 off 28 deliveries.

Meanwhile, the Men in Blue have also lost Washington Sundar as the short-pitched delivery from Saqib Mahmood brought upon his downfall, leaving the tourists five down and a tricky remaining overs.
Team India already have a 1-0 series lead as they won the series-opener at Edgbaston in Birmingham comfortably by six wickets. Although Rohit and Kohli failed to make the expected impact, Gill (80), Sundar (52*) and Axar Patel (57*) stepped up precisely when their side needed them to carry India to victory. England, who had opted to bat first, had collapsed to 107/6 at one stage but a century partnership from the masterful Joe Root and Liam Dawson ensured that the hosts reached a competitive total of 258.
Having lost the series-opener, the home side must win in Cardiff to force a decider in London.
