India’s women’s cricket team refused to collect the Women’s Asia Cup 2026 trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi after beating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai on Sunday.
The trophy presentation was delayed as the Indian players did not come out to the stage while Naqvi stood alongside ACC officials. Sri Lanka’s players collected their medals and completed their presentation, but there was still no sign of the Indian team near the stage.
Indian Women Refuse Trophy From Mohsin Naqvi
The development came after discussions involving the Indian camp and BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, with the team deciding not to receive the trophy from Naqvi. The situation brings back the the controversy from last year’s men’s Asia Cup final, when India also declined to take the trophy from the ACC chief.

Smriti Mandhana provided the other half of a superb opening partnership, scoring 59 from 39 balls. The pair added 129 runs to put India firmly in control before Sri Lanka’s bowlers pulled things back in the final five overs.
Sri Lanka never found a way into the chase. India’s bowlers kept taking wickets at regular intervals before Sree Charani finished with four wickets. Sri Lanka were eventually bowled out for 111, giving India a 72-run victory, and their eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
