Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have received a huge update on Ayush Mhatre ahead of their IPL 2026 fixture against the Mumbai Indians on April 23, Thursday at the Wankhede Stadium. While the explosive right-handed batter is not expected to miss the entire season, he looks certain to be ruled out of a few games, denting the Super Kings’ campaign further.

MI vs CSK, IPL 2026: Why will Ayush Mhatre miss a few games of the tournament?

The 18-year-old, who ushered the Indian U-19 team to World Cup glory, has been amongst the few potent batters for the Super Kings. However, he suffered a hamstring tear en route to his explosive cameo of 30 off 12 deliveries against the SunRisers Hyderabad on Tuesday. According to Cricbuzz, Mhatre will undergo a scan for his hamstring on Monday but is certain to miss a few matches moving forward.

Cricbuzz also revealed that Rajvardhan Hangargekar will undergo a trial in Mumbai after Akash Madhwal underwent one in Hyderabad as the Super Kings look to name Khaleel Ahmed’s replacement. Additionally, MS Dhoni has travelled to Mumbai with the team but there is no clarity whether the former Super Kings will play.

MI vs CSK, IPL 2026: Where are Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings placed in the points table?

Despite 10 IPL titles between them, Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are 10th and 7th position in the points table. The Mumbai Indians began their campaign with a big win over the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Wankhede Stadium. But they have slumped to four consecutive losses to the Delhi Capitals, Rajasthan Royals, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the Punjab Kings (PBKS), making them look completely out of depth. Another defeat could make it incredibly difficult for them to reach the playoffs.

As for the Super Kings, their campaign began with three consecutive losses before pulling off two successive victories over the Delhi Capitals and the Knight Riders. But the defeat to the SunRisers have set them back yet again.
