Australia and Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Cameron Green is expected to bowl as the three-time champions’ campaign is on the brink of reaching a tipping point. According to ESPN Cricinfo, the towering all-rounder is ready to bowl in a competitive situation, with the Knight Riders desperately needing their big-ticket player to come good this season.
Cameron Green struggles to justify his enormous price tag in IPL 2026
The Aussie all-rounder entered the auction and became the costliest overseas player in the history, fetching a jaw-dropping amount of ₹25.20 crore. However, Green has seemingly felt the weight of the expectations as showcased by his scores of 18, 2 and 4 in the three innings played so far. As far as his bowling goes, Cricket Australia had issued the below statement on March 30:
“Cameron has a lower-back injury, which is being managed, but requires him to abstain from bowling for a short period. Cameron is currently rebuilding his bowling loads in India with a view to return in around 10-12 days’ time.”
But Cricinfo has reported that the 26-year-old is ready to bowl in a competitive situation now. Green not being able to bowl has affected KKR’s plans, given their pace bowling unit has suffered with injuries to Akash Deep and Harshit Rana along with Mustafizur Rahman getting withdrawn before the tournament. Additionally, Varun Chakravarthy’s hand injury rendered him unavailable for the game against the Punjab Kings, as was Sunil Narine due to illness.
“Don’t push him down” – Aaron Finch’s advice to KKR amid Cameron Green’s batting returns
Former KKR opener Aaron Finch believes the franchise should not drop Green down the batting order despite his poor returns but suggested that resting him could help. Finch stated on ESPN Cricinfo’s Timeout:
“One of those dismissals has been a run out [against SRH], not a part of his fault. Still, he’s missed out twice. There’s a bit of panic, he’s not looking the same as the past. Remember when he was at the top of the order for MI – how he had a totally different intent. He was imposing at the crease. Now he looks tentative. Don’t push him down. Push him either up the order, or give him a rest.”
The Knight Riders are currently eighth in the points table and will next face the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on Thursday.
