GT vs SRH, IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans have stormed to the top of the IPL 2026 points table after their comprehensive 82-run victory over the SunRisers Hyderabad on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. With 16 points in their kitty, they have dethroned Royal Challengers Bengaluru, (RCB) who climbed to the summit after the win over the Mumbai Indians on Sunday. But have the Titans officially sealed a playoffs spot? What are SunRisers Hyderabad’s chances now after their heavy loss? Check the scenarios here.
GT vs SRH, IPL 2026: Have Gujarat Titans officially qualified for the playoffs this year?
Despite 16 points under their belt, the Titans have not officially qualified for the playoffs but are almost confirmed for a top four finish. There is hardly ever any team in IPL history that has finished out of top four despite having 16 points. Should they win their next two matches too against the Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Shubman Gill and co. will also be guaranteed one of the top two spots ahead of the playoffs.
Meanwhile, the SunRisers Hyderabad find themselves in a slight pickle right now after an 82-run defeat that has also affected their net run-rate. Although with 14 points, Pat Cummins’ men are still third on the table, but will need at least one of their next two games to go through to the playoffs. The likes of Rajasthan Royals (12 points), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (14 points) and Punjab Kings (13 points) are also firm contenders to go through to the playoffs. The Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings are peaking at the right time too, meaning the SunRisers cannot afford much missteps.
GT vs SRH, IPL 2026: Gujarat Titans register their lowest powerplay score of the season
The toss in Ahmedabad went in Pat Cummins’ favour as he opted to bowl first. While Cummins remained economical, Praful Hinge took the wickets of Shubman Gill and Jos Buttler inside the powerplay to push the Titans onto the back foot early on. Their powerplay score stood at only 34/2. The SunRisers skipper returned for his third over in the 10th and dismissed the promising Nishant Sandhu for 22. But B Sai Sudharsan grinded it out for a well-compiled half-century and a 60-run stand with Washington Sundar. Towards the end, Sundar dished out some big hits in his 33-ball 50, while Rahul Tewatia faced only one ball for his boundary to take the hosts to 168.
Mohammed Siraj started the proceedings in dreamy fashion by dismissing Travis Head for a duck in the very first over. Abhishek Sharma (8), Ishan Kishan (11) and Ravichandran Smaran (9) departed cheaply to leave the Orange Army reeling at 32/4. Heinrich Klaasen and Salil Arora restored some semblance of control but it was short lived as wickets began falling in clumps again. Pat Cummins was the last batter after Klaasen and Arora to get to double figures as the match ended in the 15th over itself.
