Delhi Capitals could be in for a massive blow as Mitchell Starc may miss the entire season of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 as he seems to be carrying an injury. Starc’s wife Alyssa Healy, who recently announced her international retirement, revealed that the veteran fast bowler has an injury, rendering him unable to bowl currently while replying to a fan on Instagram.

Has Mitchell Starc joined Delhi Capitals’ camp?

Starc, who skipped IPL for 10 years, returned to the cash-rich league ahead of the 2024 edition and fetched a massive amount of ₹24.75 crore from the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). He had played a pivotal role in the Knight Riders’ third title victory that year, earning Player of the Match awards in the Qualifier 1 and final. But the Knight Riders surprisingly released him from the squad, prompting the Capitals to shell out ₹11.75 to secure Starc’s services. The New South Welshman had finished the 2025 edition with 14 scalps in 11 games at 26.14 but the Capitals failed to reach the playoffs. With Cricket Australia managing the 36-year-old’s workload, he has likely not joined Delhi’s camp as yet. There seems to be no word currently on when will he join. While CA mentioned about only workload management, it didn’t carry any statement about Starc’s injury.

Delhi Capitals to open their IPL 2026 campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants

Meanwhile, the Delhi-based franchise will open their campaign against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) on April 1st, Wednesday at the Ekana Stadium in an away game. It will be the second year that Axar Patel will lead the franchise. The Capitals had begun IPL 2025 with four victories in as many games but managed only one win in the final five completed games. Hence, they missed out on a playoff spot.

Their most expensive player in the auction was Jammu and Kashmir pacer Auqib Nabi, who fired their side to the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 win with 60 wickets in the season. Hence, he will arguably be one of the players to watch out for.
