New Zealand and Delhi Capitals pacer Kyle Jamieson has cheekily underlined the need for IPL 2026 to be more in favour of the bowlers ahead of their game against the Gujarat Titans. With the balance between the bat and ball getting restored in the last few games, the right-arm seamer prayed for it to continue in the cash-rich tournament for as long as possible.
“Felt like a bowlers’ graveyard” – Kyle Jamieson recalls days before T20 World Cup 2026
Jamieson, who was part of New Zealand’s squad in the five-game T20I rubber against India and the subsequent T20 World Cup 2026, went for runs as much as any other bowler. The 31-year-old admitted that the bulk of heavy runs consistently made him think it would be a graveyard for bowlers. When asked whether it’s been a relief to see balance between bat and ball, Jamieson agreed, given how the few pitches have assisted bowlers too. Speaking to The Sunday Guardian in a select media interaction, he said:
“Yeah, a little bit. We spent January here with New Zealand and it felt like a bowlers’ graveyard. And at times during the T20 World Cup, it felt like that too. So, you’re a little bit nervous coming over thinking you’re going to have two months of that. But no, as you said, the wickets have been a little bit more even between bat and ball. We have obviously seen a couple of high-scoring games but equally there’s been some games with some help and assistance. I think it’s great for us as a bowling unit, you can go through your arsenal a little bit more and you can use your most effective ball marry that up and sequence your overs around that. So, that’s always really helpful. We spoke about it even the last game we played with a little bit of a slow nature in that deli surface that actually, yep, doesn’t give us the pace and bounce that sometimes we would have liked.”
“But it means you can structure your over around certain balls. I thought the boys used their slow balls brilliantly in that last game and then structured their overs around that. So, hopefully, the wickets still have a little bit for the bowlers. We don’t just see boundary fest, but that’s probably maybe a little bit more biased. So, long may it continue, though.”
Will Kyle Jamieson play in the IPL 2026 game vs the Gujarat Titans?
With the Capitals winning two games out of two, they are unlikely to tweak their XI for the encounter against the Titans on April 8, Wednesday at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The Titans are under some pressure after suffering losses to the Punjab Kings and Rajasthan Royals. But they have a superior head-to-head record against the Capitals, winning 4 out of 7 games.
