Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) could be looking to moving on from Wanindu Hasaranga as there is no clarity on whether he would be available to play in IPL 2026 or not. Hence, the Super Giants may soon be looking to replace the Sri Lankan leg-spinner for the remainder of the tournament.
Has Wanindu Hasaranga been denied NOC for IPL 2026?
With Sri Lank Cricket (SLC) denying NOC to pacer Nuwan Thushara for IPL participation, it has called into question whether the wrist-spinner has also been denied the same by the board. However, according to Cricbuzz, Hasaranga is yet to undergo the fitness test that the board intends to conduct to decide for the IPL participation. Cricbuzz further reported that the sources in Sri Lanka said Hasaranga batted for a session at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo last week but did not bowl. He last played in the T20 World Cup 2026 match against Ireland on February 8 and has been sidelined due to a tear in his left hamstring.
Due to no clarity yet, the Super Giants could be moving on from the 28-year-old, who fetched ₹2 crore in the IPL 2026 auction. The leggie has claimed 46 wickets in 37 IPL games at 33.73, having played for the Rajasthan Royals and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) previously. The Sri Lankan was also a part of the SunRisers Hyderabad in IPL 2024 but didn’t play a game.
Lucknow Super Giants pull one back after losing their first game of IPL 2026
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant and co. pulled one back to register their first win of IPL 2026 as they beat the SunRisers Hyderabad by five wickets on April 5, Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Rishabh Pant’s unbeaten 68 and their new-ball bowling formed the bedrock of the Super Giants’ first win of the season. Mohammed Shami proved to be the star of the bowling with outstanding figures of 4-0-9-2, restricting the SunRisers to 156/9 despite half-centuries from Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Kumar Reddy.
The Super Giants did struggle but Pant took the game deep and finished it off with one ball to spare.
