KL Rahul, who opened the batting with Abhishek Porel, started the innings with 40-run stand in 4.3 overs. He shared quick-fire partnerships with Sahil Parakh and Axar Patel before falling for 60. David Miller (39) and Axar Patel (28) played handy knocks, while Ashutosh Sharma also chipped in with 18 runs in the 11 balls he faced to lift the Capitals to 203/5 in 20 overs.
The Knight Riders started their chase exceptionally well, with Finn Allen batting aggressively against Mitchell Starc. But Lungi Ngidi halted Allen’s charge in his first over and gave another vital breakthrough in the 9th over by dismissing Manish Pandey. Even as Cameron Green departed cheaply, the Knight Riders were still in the game as Ajinkya Rahane’s fifty kept them afloat. The three-time champions’ skipper’s wicket in the 14th over was arguably the turning point as the remaining wickets fell in clumps. The Knight Riders were 128/3 at one stage and slid to 163 all out from there to lose by 40 runs.
