Despite succumbing to 88/3 at one stage, the five-time champions kept with the required run-rate. Tilak was the key even as Sherfane Rutherford struggled to keep up with the required tempo. When 50 were required off the last 18 deliveries, Marco Jansen conceded 22 runs to let the Mumbai Indians back into the contest.
It all came down to 15 requiring off the final over and three sixes from Tilak sealed the deal. PBKS will next face a charged-up Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday.
