PBKS vs MI, IPL 2026: Punjab Kings’ 5th straight defeat in IPL 2026 have made the playoffs qualification scenario for them extremely tricky moving forward. Defending 200 for the second straight game in Dharamshala, they failed in their quest as Tilak Varma’s unbeaten 75 helped the Mumbai Indians achieve the target of 201 with one ball to spare. Despite their fifth loss, Punjab Kings are now holding on to the spot of fourth game but now face a steep road to the playoffs.

PBKS vs MI, IPL 2026: Punjab Kings slip up after Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya start strongly

With Deepak Chahar taking the new ball, Priyansh Arya got the innings with a boundary as he and Prabhsimran Singh raced to a 50-run stand in no time. Prabhsimran notably got a lifeline when he was on 5 and went on to score 52 more runs after Chahar cleaned up Arya. It was in the 12th over that the Mumbai Indians began turning the tables around, dismissing Prabhsimran (57) and Shreyas Iyer (4) in the same over. After Cooper Connolly’s 21, the next two batters in Suryansh Shedge (8) and Shashank Singh (2) perished cheaply as Punjab slipped to 135/6.

Azmatullah Omarazi’s lusty blows breathed some life into the Punjab Kings’ camp as he struck four sixes in his 17-ball 38, while Vinod (15) and Xavier Bartlett (18) also played crucial cameos to lift their side to 200/8 in 20 overs. Mumbai Indians had a strong start of their own, with Ryan Rickelton and Rohit Sharma threading a brisk 61-run partnership. Despite succumbing to 88/3 at one stage, the five-time champions kept with the required run-rate. Tilak was the key even as Sherfane Rutherford struggled to keep up with the required tempo. When 50 were required off the last 18 deliveries, Marco Jansen conceded 22 runs to let the Mumbai Indians back into the contest.

It all came down to 15 requiring off the final over and three sixes from Tilak sealed the deal. PBKS will next face a charged-up Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) on Sunday.
